Giving it Away

Andrew Carnegie told us that "he who dies rich dies disgraced" but until relatively recently the marginal tax rate (up to 98%) ensured that this was not too likely to happen. However with marginal income tax rates down to 45% and capital gains tax down to 28%, the culture of giving is slowly reviving. It is said that 75% of those on the Rich List made their money themselves as opposed to inheriting it, and it is becoming fashionable to tackle the task of giving it away with the same professional approach as was needed to make it. It is not the end of flag days, but the big hitters are likey to want to do their due diligence to ensure that their contribution makes a difference

If you want to make a real difference to smaller, hard to find charities, consider coming to a Funding Network event - it's an open forum where charities present and people decide whether they wish to support them. The philosophy is that it's more fun to give in company than alone and that lots of people making a small contribution can together make a huge difference. Since 2002 The Funding Network has raised over £1.6M. Described as 'A Dragon's Den for charities' or 'speed-dating for charities' events are held in London, Leeds, Bristol and Oxford. Why not join us - you won't regret it! For more information go to www.thefundingnetwork.org.uk. Look forward to seeing you there.
