Experience in further education

Recently Retired from FE?

If you have recently retired from teaching in Further Education, and would like to spend a month doing something really valuable, read on…

Mankoadze Vocational College is located at an idyllic spot on the coast of Ghana an hour from the capital, Accra.  The area is safe and friendly.   The college has 150 students aged 16-26, organised as four year groups.  It teaches Electricals, Catering, Building & Construction, Textiles, Computing, English and Maths.  All teaching is in English, and class sizes are typically 10-15 students, who are all really keen to learn.

We are particularly keen to have an Electricals Lecturer, as the normal standard of domestic wiring in rural Ghana is dire!

The timing and duration of your visit is flexible, but the college runs a three-term year roughly aligned with the UK academic year, and we think you might find a month about right.

You will be expected to make your own travel arrangements (a return flight from London costs around £500), but the college will organise your travel in Ghana, and will provide comfortable private accommodation and meals within the college grounds (they may make a small charge for meals).

The college is supported by a small UK charity, The Education and Book Appeal: Ghana, (TEABAG www.teabagcharity.org.uk, Reg.1126462 ).  It may be possible to accompany someone from the charity when they are going (we visit quite frequently).

If this sounds like the kind of challenge that might appeal to you, you can obtain additional information from the Treasurer, Chris Moller on 01954 251819 or at chris.moller@evonet.com.
